Types of Video Walls and Their Applications
Video cubes
They are used in the construction of professional video walls (one of the most expensive options). A projector, a system of mirrors and an intensifying screen are installed inside the video cube, in other words, the video cube is a rear projection system.
The video cube can be placed on a rack, vertically or horizontally. The minimum distance between the elements, the main advantage is no more than 1-2 mm. As a result, the video wall will display a seamless image.
LCD panels
LCD panels for video walls are professional, they are different from household TVs. Due to technological features, modern profiled panels practically do not have a frame, the minimum size is 1.05 mm / 0.55 mm. Also, one of the differences is well-thought-out ventilation, which will not be disturbed when the panels are combined into a single video wall. The advantages include – brightness and saturation of the image, high-quality display of dynamic video. To form a video wall based on LCD panels, specialized fasteners with guides are required, which is more likely to be a disadvantage of using this equipment.
LED panels
Another option for building video walls is LED panels. LED video walls consist of colored LEDs and have a large pixel pitch – from 3 mm or more. The principle of construction is similar to the view cubes; are built from small individual modules and as a result, the size of a single screen can be huge. The main feature of LED-modules is that they are both indoor and outdoor (indoor/outdoor). They are great for outdoor advertising due to their excellent brightness, color reproduction and wide viewing angles.
Projection equipment
To build a large video wall, you can also use professional projectors, as they are equipped with built-in video controllers and can withstand high loads. Depending on the model of projectors, contrast, brightness, color reproduction are adjusted manually or automatically. It is possible to form a single seamless image by overlaying images on each other not only on a straight surface, but also on curved, broken, and even 3D models.
Outdoor or indoor use of video wall
Previously, the possibility of using the panel on the street was determined by a special casing that protected the device from external factors and created the necessary microclimate for the wall.
All-weather panels have now appeared that can work in any conditions, including in heat or cold. If you want to place the wall outside, check if it is suitable for such use.
Attachment type and ease of maintenance of a video wall
Video walls generally do not require any special maintenance – they just need to be mounted, calibrated and configured. Plus, professional cleaning is needed at least once or twice a year to remove accumulated dust in hard-to-reach places. You also need to provide for the possibility of repairing a separate panel. This requires easy access to the panels.
